What costs are covered for diabetes?

Your child has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. In addition to the shock of the announcement, there are medical constraints, travel and several related expenses. Fortunately, some expenses may be covered by different plans:

Insulin Pump Access Program

(If private insurance does not cover the costs – the portion not covered will be reimbursed by the program)
The Pump Access Program provides reimbursement for the purchase of an insulin pump and supplies needed for its use.

Your child has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. In addition to the shock of the announcement, there are medical constraints, travel and several related expenses. Fortunately, some expenses may be covered by different plans:

Provincial Tax Credit

To be eligible for this credit, the Attestation of Disability form (TP-752.0.14), section – Essential Treatment Time – must be signed by your doctor.

Form LPF-825 allows the person responsible for the care of a child with a disability to apply for the Child Disability Supplement.

Federal Tax Credit

Eligibility for the DTC reduces income tax (non-refundable tax credit)

Supplement for person under 18 years old.

To be eligible, the patient must submit the form (T2201) to his or her physician (nurse practitioner) for approval.

The following expenses are also eligible at both the federal and provincial levels.

  • Insulin, treatment infusion pump and related disposable equipment and device designed to measure blood glucose levels
  • Transportation costs of an individual accompanying the person (to be checked)
